Ahhhh!

There are development opportunities out there every day. NewYorkStrip.com is a perfect example.

It is for sale for in the low 4 figures. Looking at google, it gets about 50,000 searches per month for the exact key phrase and there are plenty of long tail terms for it too.

The monetisation options are wicked easy for this one. NewYorkStrip.com is a perfect domain for a steak affiliate site. The affiliates pay $8-12 per order. There are several holidays throughout the year (think Christmas, Valentines, summer BBQ season) that you can buy CPC for to drive traffic and really sell it. For the rest of the year, just sit back and rank and collect all the natural search traffic.

I’d build out 100 pages of content targeting the long tail keywords. I’d use keyword rich titles and descriptions, perfect internal linking and work a text link or two for the affiliates into each page. Then I’d run a 300×250 banner block in the top right of every content page, rotated through several affiliate offers, holiday offers etc.

10 orders a month would get your investment back in 1 year.

You could build this in a weekend using Wordpress. Have you read my posts about good permalinks, avoiding duplicate content, proper page structure, and using an anchor text matrix yet?

[This domain is for sale at Rick Latona. This is NOT a paid post, I just like the development potential of the domain name]

FYI, the exact phrase “New York Strip” gets searched on average 1,600 times per month on google, nowhere near the 50k you say. Check it at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and be sure to set Match Type to Exact.

  2. Yes indeed, it only gets about 2,000 - 3,000 searches per month overall at both Google and Yahoo.

Also this name is better suited for Strip Clubs.

That is the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the headline.

No steaks, no food…. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS !

    Best,
    Mike

Yes the domain could go in that direction too. But how would you monetise it? :-)

      • Once there is enough traffic there — plenty of strip clubs in the NY area to offer prime ad space and some nice exposure/visibility on it.

        $$$$

What I find very interesting that works great, each and every time, is that on this type of “geo” sites if you offer an advertiser an “exclusive” spot they will be all over it… They will pre-pay you month’s in advance just to secure that spot.

I’ve put together deals where I got paid 3 - 6 and upto 12 month’s in advance as well.

For example, I have many city and county domains developed… Offering one real estate agent/brokerage an exclusive spot on it guarantees them that all leads will come their way. I will not accept anymore advertisers that are real estate agents/brokerages.

I only have one in each category… Same for restaurants, car dealers, etc.

        Works great ;)

Regarding google adwords keyword tool, when searching for a term using “exact,”I got approx average search volume of 58 a month and with “phrase” I got 320. But on the data section for the last month (JAN) you get the message “NOT ENOUGH DATA. ”

My question is when this happens its best to disregard this information even though there is several phrase extensions showing up aswell. Or I am thinking that the traffic might be seasonal and too many people on holidays in Jan? The subject I was searching was “builders wellington” for Google New Zealand.

    Really enjoying your latest blogs,

    Thanks for sharing/ teaching.

  4. It would definitely be tough try and weed out some of the users that are looking for a little more than a good steak.

It would also be a little difficult to monetize a lot of the traffic that is simply looking for some good steak/marinade recipes (unless you used AdSense or some other form of contextual advertising - which even then could serve some potentially very embarassing advertisements - i.e. someone is on a page reviewing steak marinade recipes and they are served with an ad to visit a NY City Gentleman’s Club, etc.)
